Short Summary: While there is a wealth of helpful information available to new Restless on the situation, Naruto willfully ignored it all—confident in his ability to find the means to return everyone home in a timely manner. His naïve arrogance and optimism were initially bolstered by small victories in handling noticeboard quests.
For the first quest, he barked like a dog over the netherwork to Jonas Ward and appeased the mischievous Darklings. For his efforts, Naruto managed to secure the stolen pouch of gems, which was returned to Alicia. Afterward, he located her missing parents. The two weeks of free food and board at the Bramblebed Inn did him no favors in accepting the grim reality of his circumstances in the Netherworld.
For the second quest, he paired up with castmate Uchiha Sasuke to search the Barrens for a missing ring in the old chapel ruins. His Shadow’s influence overwhelmed him when Sasuke was attacked by a gargoyle; Naruto briefly lost control over himself and his bijū’s chakra. Though he played off the incident and assumed Sasuke would let it go, his former teammate informed castmate Haruno Sakura of what happened. After Naruto discovered this, his Shadow began to sow more seeds of doubt within him concerning his once ironclad friendships.
In the leadup to the Frightful Harvest, Naruto joined a group of Restless in scouring the Oakwoods for the Mourning Lantern—however, he fell behind in favor of helping Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd bury the countless corpses littering the woods. Later, he partook in the festivities and ate the grablenuts, which lowered his inhibitions enough to affectionately cuddle with Sasuke. At one point during the parade, he suddenly found himself swapping bodies with Noctis Lucis Caelum. As Noctis, Naruto ran into Jonas, who tried a shadowfell candy and fell into a deep, deathlike slumber as a result. Believing Jonas to be dead, Naruto attempted clumsy CPR with mouth-to-mouth (which totally does not count as a real kiss). Eventually, he found Noctis and they returned to their original bodies.
When the headless horseman attacked, Naruto gave chase alongside Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez. Their pursuit carried them across the Tempest, where Naruto’s powers fizzled out. (Thread still in progress; Naruto will somehow manage to make his way back to the shore after nearly drowning.)
In the background of these threads, Naruto has continuously searched for ways home from the Netherworld. Each endeavor has ultimately ended in failure—and injury. Innate healing abilities have helped him recover from ill-advised exploration of this realm, but his confidence has steadily eroded given the lack of forward progress. Additionally, conversations with other Restless have caused Naruto to start questioning how unhealthy and backwards the culture of his own world is in comparison (re: child soldiers, sexuality and gender, etc.).
